Mouth Herpes, HSV1, Cold Sores are all one in the same. The Herpes Simplex Virus is the known cause and is usually transmitted by kissing or direct contact with an infected person. The Herpes Virus causes liquid filled blisters to form over the infected areas, see the above Pictures of Oral Herpes. After being exposed for the first time, the skin usually gets red, inflamed, hot, itchy and general pain will occur. The infected person, may also experience flu like symptoms and may even produce a slight fever. The skin usually breaks out in tiny blisters, that may last for up to 2 weeks, before popping and then healing over. The Herpes virus then will lie dormant in the nerve endings, until triggered for the next episode. This condition may be contagious at anytime, so extreme care should be taken, not to spread the virus to other individuals.
